A new version of Covered. What you’ll see is shiny animation when flicking through your library, what you won’t see it that the code creating the graphics is completely new, uses about half as much memory and fixes a number of stupid, stupid bugs that come from me not testing the damn thing. Download and enjoy.
DOWNLOAD COVERED 0.4
You don’t really want that do you? Development on Covered has now finished, but not only can you still download the final version (0.4) but you can also now get your hands on the source.
Every now and then I get that nagging thought of wondering where I fit into the grand scheme of things. Usually it doesn’t last long and occurs when I’m in the pub. Now it appears I’ve found my place, or at least have been put into one. According to last weekends Sunday Times:
“Tony Blair has betrayed the ‘iPod’ generation - young people who are insecure, pressured, overtaxed and debt-ridden.”
Now I’m not sure what qualifications you need to join the iPod generation but given that I’ve got two of the music playing boxes, I’m pretty sure I’m a dead cert for membership. They can even have my Apple registered serial numbers if it’ll help, not that I think it will. That said, I’m not sure about the definition. Yes I’m overtaxed (as if I’m going to say the opposite!) and I’ve got the odd bit of debt lying around, and I can link these directly to the government, but I’m not sure how the government is meant to have made me insecure or pressured unless these are side-effects of the being overtaxed and debt-ridden in which case they’re probably more our fault than that of the outgoing PM.
The article goes on to highlight how blinking hard it is for young people (guys like me, I’m a guy like me) to get onto the property ladder, especially down here in what we like to call ‘The South’. This is something I wholeheartedly agree with, the dream of owning a property myself right now being a bit like the Lord of the Rings trilogy (you know it’s all going to be ok, but it’s going to take for ever). Now while this could be caused again by the overtaxing and debt, personally I think it also has something to do with the fact that young people like spending their money on things like iPods rather than things like mortgages and the fact that there simply aren’t enough houses to go around at the moment (thank you very much the combined effort of the breakup of the family and the effect of Property Ladder on C4).
So, can Blair be made responsible for the output of Channel 4 and it’s effect on the population? Sadly not. Has he betrayed the iPod generation? Probably. Will Mr Brown be any different. Don’t quote me but I very much doubt it. My Generation? That could just all be a song by The Who.
by Ash - part string filled film score, part classic Ash track - tremendous.
When are people going to learn, if you don’t want to have to take the wellies, bring Glastonbury forward by a fortnight. In 6 years of the IOW I’m struggling to remember more than a single shower, but that might just be my memory!

I make no apology for focusing on writing Covered rather than posting randoms on here because I know that my enthusiasm for the project is strictly limited and I’ve got to get as much as possible done while I can still be bothered.
So here’s your new fix of the Coverflow clone for windows. Version 0.3, which in the tradition of naming releases is named after Starsailor’s album ‘love is here’. So what’s new:
- Covered now looks like Coverflow by displaying your current album as part of your whole music library.
- You can navigate through the library using the left and right arrow keys and play the selected album by pressing return - sadly no animations as yet, that’s for the next phase.
- Covered is now started using the supplied exe file. This allows Covered to request enough memory to avoid it crashing. With my library of 2400 songs, Covered maxes out using nearly 300Mb of memory so don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Remember this is essentially a preview, I know there are problems and I’m working to solve as many as possible. All of that said:

Another of the weekends that seem to mark the start of the summer, another Isle of Wight festival has come and gone, and a good weekend it was.
That said, it was hot. Too hot considering that the arena provides absolutely no shade for those of us amongst the 50,000 strong crowd with real tickets who can’t handle being sat in the full glare of our nearest star all day. So the middle each day was instead spent in the pub down the road.
So who was good. The highlights were both The Rolling stones and Muse who were excellent (despite by my own admission not being a real fan of either). I also really enjoyed Kasabian and Groove Armada despite again not being a fan. Of the bands of whom I’m already a fan, The Feeling, Snow Patrol and Keane were all good (although I’ve seen all 3 in the last few months and none had really changed their sets) and Ash were as their usual tremendous selves playing a good mix of their new and the classic tracks.
And who wasn’t good, well I was a bit disappointed by The Fratellis, but that’s about it.
If you’re expecting pictures then I’m sorry to disappoint you but there won’t be any, the camera along with my normal phone were left at home, after all there has to be some level of roughing it involved doesn’t there?
